Dyraaba Estate

Rooted in Heritage, Grown with Purpose

Nestled in the heart of Bandarawela in Sri Lanka’s picturesque Uva Province, Dyraaba Estate stands as a proud symbol of tradition, resilience, and agricultural excellence. Established in 1914 under the stewardship of Mr. P. de. P. Carey, the estate began its journey as part of the renowned Stratheden Tea Syndicate, a Scottish-managed company that laid the foundation for what would become a landmark in the region.

At an elevation of 924 meters above sea level, Dyraaba thrives in a unique microclimate with annual rainfall averaging 1400–1550mm—ideal conditions that once earned its factory, established in 1917, a reputation for producing tea with the famed Uva flavour. Though the original factory was tragically lost during the 1989 insurgency, the estate’s high-quality green leaf continues to be processed at the Uva Highlands and Aislaby factories.

Since the nationalization in 1975 and subsequent privatization in 1992, the estate has been expertly managed by Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC, under whose vision Dyraaba has evolved into a diversified agro-enterprise.

With a cultivated extent of 291.46,  Dyraaba is more than just tea.

Today, the estate proudly hosts:

  • Over 40 hectares of high-quality Mandarin cultivations, making it the largest commercial producer in the highlands.
  • A state-of-the-art quarantine nursery for premium Avocado plants, supporting crop diversification across Malwatte Valley’s plantations.
  • Rainforest Alliance certification, reflecting our commitment to sustainable and ethical agricultural practices.

More than a century since its inception, Dyraaba Estate remains a beacon of legacy and innovation—deeply rooted in its past, yet always growing toward the future.
