Aislaby Estate
Established in 1920, Aislaby Estate is a prestigious tea plantation located in the Badulla District of Sri Lanka’s Uva Province, nestled along the Bandarawela–Ettampitiya road through the heart of the Malwatte Valley. Originally planted by Mr. A. I. Allan and later developed by Mr. N. S. Bostock under the management of Harrisons and Crosfield Ltd., Aislaby has become a benchmark for exceptional Eastern Highland teas.
A Legacy in the Highlands
Situated at elevations ranging from 1191 to 1218 meters above sea level, Aislaby Estate thrives in a uniquely favorable microclimate, with an annual rainfall of 1650 mm. Covering a cultivated extent of 463.32 hectares, the estate is planted with high-quality seedling tea of Chinese and Assam origin, known for producing exquisite seasonal flavors.
Taste the Essence of the Eastern Highlands
The estate’s exclusive location allows it to benefit from the cool, dry “Katchchan” trade winds—originating in the arid deserts of North India and sweeping across the Bay of Bengal—contributing to Aislaby’s distinctive taste. These climatic elements help shape the character of its teas, which are manufactured and sold under the Aislaby mark, known for its bold, complex, and elegant flavor profile.
Commitment to Quality and Sustainability
Aislaby Estate is proud to be Rainforest Alliance Certified, a testament to its dedication to sustainable agriculture, ecosystem conservation, and ethical working conditions. The estate has also achieved certifications for ISO 22000, HACCP, and GMP, reinforcing its commitment to food safety and global quality standards.
The Aislaby Factory
Commissioned on June 11, 1936, the Aislaby Tea Factory is perched at an elevation of 1218 meters, producing Liquoring Orthodox and Rotorvane teas. It continues to uphold the legacy of superior Uva High Grown teas while adapting to modern innovations in tea processing.
