Company Background
Recognized as one of Sri Lanka’s key exporters of tea, rubber and spices, the majority of our produce is handpicked in our own plantations spanning over 7,000 hectares. All produce is processed, packaged and exported from our own factories, delivering an exceptional level of quality, customisation options and price control.

The group exports annually tea, rubber and spices worldwide. .
In addition to growing our own produce, Malwatte Valley also partners with numerous farming communities in remote areas of Sri Lanka, purchasing their produce and empowering them with knowledge
In 2016, the International Pepper Community recognised Malwatte Valley as Sri Lanka’s largest grower of pepper. Every ounce of Malwatte Valley spices, tea & rubber is testament to our values of sustainability, empowerment and quality – lived out by thousands of our hardworking partners.
Its real estate portfolio comprises amongst others of an office complex in the heart of Colombo city, a large state of the art warehousing complex just outside Colombo and beach properties on the East and West Coast of Sri Lanka.

Milestones
Down the memory lane
22nd June, 1992
Malwatte Valley Plantations Ltd was incorporated.
22nd June, 1997
The Company was converted to a Public Quoted Company and Wayamba Plantations (Pvt) Ltd purchased 51% of its share holding. Currently Wayamba holds 69% of Malwatte.
2008
- ISO 22,000 was obtained for all factories.
- Commenced export of Teas.
2009
Purchased an office complex in the heart of the city and a warehousing complex just outside, adding real estate to its portfolio.
2010
- August 2010 constructed more warehousing facilities in the Company owned complex to store its tea stocks and house the export arm of the Company.
- Company carried out a diversification programme in marginal Tea lands to grow Fruits, Spices and Rubber.
2011
Ethical tea certification was obtained for all Tea factories.
2012
Commenced Rubber Exports.
New Tea Blending equipment was installed in our stores complex to enhance our facilities.
2014
Purchased 09 acres of beachfront land on the East coast adding on to its real estate portfolio.
2017
Rainforest Alliance certification was obtained for our plantations.
2019
Our first spice processing centre commenced operations.
2020
Malwatte commenced branding its products and entering both local & international markets

- Uva Highlands estate received a Merit award at the ‘Ceylon Specialty Estate Tea of the Year’ competition in Dubai and Sarnia estate received a Silver & Gold award at the same competition.
- Dickwella & Uva highlands won Silver and Bronze respectively at the “Ceylon Specialty Tea Awards” in Moscow, Russia.
- Sarnia and Aislaby won silver and bronze respectively in the “Ceylon Specialty Tea Awards” in Tokyo, Japan.
- St. James was judged the overall winner at the “Ceylon Specialty Tea Awards” in las vegas USA.
